The Lamentation or The Mourning of Christ was originally painted by Giotto in Italy around the year 1305. Here interpreted in ink 720 years later.
Hans Holbein the Younger painted The Darmstadt Madonna in 1530. It shows Bürgermeister Meyer of Basel, his first wife AND his second wife, plus his daughter, holy Mary and Jesus. Here in a new wrapping by son (8).
Our choice of paintings was influenced by a) Christmas and b) Gombrich’s The Story of Art, which explains the strong Western Christian Male Gaze Xmas Theme.
A minimalist take on The Adoration of the Child by Fra Angelico (1430–1435).
The paintings are masterpieces for an inimitable reason. That’s one of the big revelations of this drawing game.
Caravaggio’s The Entombment of Christ (1603/2025).
